He came to 91¶ÌÊÓƵ after heading the Spanish program at Houghton College. Under Horst’s leadership, the enrollment in 91¶ÌÊÓƵ’s Spanish courses climbed steadily. He was noted for his genuine interest in students, his attention to detail in course preparation, his open office hours, and his integration of faith and learning. He and his wife, Vi, led several cross-cultural programs in Central America and introduced 91¶ÌÊÓƵ to Cuba.

In retirement, Horst enjoys music and is active at Community Mennonite Church. He also volunteers as an English teacher to immigrants and leads tours at Valley Brethren-Mennonite Heritage Center.
