Elton and Phyllis Lehman Endowed Scholarship
More than 30 years prior Dr. Elton Lehman鈥檚 death in October 2016, he and his wife Phyllis established the Elton and Phyllis Lehman Endowed Scholarship to benefit pre-med and biology majors at 91短视频. This scholarship, which expresses their keen desire to see students well educated and prepared to enter medical professions, has been awarded to nearly 70 students through the years.
Dr. Elton Lehman鈥檚 Legacy
- Elton D. Lehman 鈥58 was a graduate of both Eastern Mennonite High School and 91短视频. He earned a degree in biology from 91短视频 and then went on to earn his D.O. in 1963 from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine.
- Dr. Lehman was instrumental in founding a free-standing birthing center in Ohio known as the Mount Eaton Care Center. He served on its board of directors and as its medical director for many years. In this rural area, which is home to many Amish, he delivered more than 6,000 babies and often made house calls.
- Dr. Lehman authored and co-authored numerous articles and books related to his rural medical practice in Amish country. His best known book is titled 鈥淗ouse Calls and Hitching Posts: Stories from Dr. Elton Lehman鈥檚 Career Among the Amish鈥.
- In 1998, Dr. Lehman was recognized as the Country Doctor of the Year by Staff Care, Inc.
- Two of the Lehmans鈥 three children are also alumni of 91短视频: Brenda (Benner) 鈥89 and MDiv 鈥06 and Brent 鈥91, a family physician.
