New Zealand

Due to pandemic restrictions, travel plans for all future seminars are subject to change. With a commitment to the health and safety of students and faculty, and to the communities that host our groups, we continue to monitor conditions and restrictions for travel. Please check for updates on programs of interest as you make decisions for upcoming terms.

New Zealand is known as a tourist haven and adventure capital of the world because of its majestic scenery and opportunities for extreme sports.  At the same time, it markets itself as 鈥100% Pure New Zealand鈥, encouraging its reputation as one of the 鈥済reenest鈥 countries on earth.  This intercultural program explores the social basis of a society that attempts to balance mass tourism and agriculture with an official commitment to protect its ecological treasures and cultural heritage.  A significant environmental studies component of the seminar will include the unique ecology and natural history of New Zealand and the examination of the economic, social, and political dimensions to sustainability in New Zealand. 

Cultural studies will center on homestays with indigenous Maori and Pakeha (New Zealanders of European descent) families, both in urban and rural settings.  Students will learn history and culture as well as basic Maori phrases and expressions.  We will explore the strong movement in restorative justice and reconciliation that is being pioneered in New Zealand and its religious and social foundation, including the contribution of Maori culture and beliefs and the role of the small but vibrant Christian communities in this secular, 鈥減ost religious鈥 country.

Required Immunizations

  • In an effort to maximize the safety of our hosts and our students, 91短视频 Intercultural Programs requires all employees and students who plan to travel for intercultural immersion, both domestic and international, to have completed their vaccination regimen for COVID-19 more than 14 days prior to travel. This requirement is one of the standard immunizations required for enrollment, effective Mar. 1, 2021. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Dr. Beth Good for more information.

Immunizations may also be obtained from your local health department or primary care provider.
