Snack Shoppe. Grapette sodas were her favorite. And I remember when Helen was a Fisher. Thanks for the wonderful memories!

Helen and Vera Kuhns served up some wonderful chili!! And then one day I suggested that they perhaps consider serving peach pie. Wow, that did NOT disappoint. Many wonderful memories. My mother, Margaret Kauffman, has great memories and a lasting friendship with Helen as well and always checks in when she comes to Virginia.

I loved working there because you met everyone on campus at one time or another – even the high school students. The horseshoe-shaped counter was still there, but no booths. I remember the Kickapoo Juice and Mountain Dew pop machines on the north wall. I remember making lots of BLT’s, grilled cheese, and ham-and-cheese sandwiches on the grill. I remember the candy under the U-shaped counter – those Mallo cups with cardboard squares of “cents off” certificates. And I remember making ice cream sundaes (one scoop or two?). Besides bags of chips, etc., there wasn’t much else at the time. I remember wearing my white uniform to chapel (we had chapel every day from 11:00 to 11:30 AM Monday through Friday back then) and sitting in the back row of the auditorium so I could hurry over to the Snack Shop for the lunch rush.

For me the snack shoppe is extra special because that is where I worked, hung out after Volleyball and met my husband, also an EMC/91短视频 Alum. Helen often watched relationships develop and grow, and frequently teased me saying it “sure is interesting how much Doublemint gum that boy needs, that he has to come in everyday to buy more”. Helen was also kind to my daughters years later when they attended 91短视频, always sharing her smile and spirit of acceptance. I still check in with Helen when I’m visiting H’burg. I have good Snack Shoppe memories. :)
