Gary Moore, the men\u2019s head volleyball coach at Eastern Mennonite\u00a0University (91短视频) since Oct. 1, 2012, has been released from employment at\u00a091短视频 as of June 18, 2013.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn an effort to let the justice process come to fruition and to allow a\u00a0person charged to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, we retained\u00a0Gary Moore on staff under close supervision until the charges were\u00a0resolved,\u201d said Ken L. Nafziger, who oversees athletics as 91短视频\u2019s vice\u00a0president for student life.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy his plea, Gary has admitted that he is guilty of a misdemeanor charge\u00a0of assault and battery against a male inmate while he was employed by the\u00a0Virginia Department of Corrections prior to his employment at 91短视频,\u201d said\u00a0Nafziger.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe facts that emerged today at a hearing at the Circuit Court of the\u00a0City of Chesapeake differed significantly from what we were previously led\u00a0to believe.\u201d<\/p>\n

The judge issued Moore a six-month suspended jail sentence, plus a $250\u00a0fine and payment of court costs. He was placed on two years of\u00a0unsupervised probation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an extremely sad day for both Gary and our men\u2019s volleyball team,\u00a0given the positive conversations and experience in volleyball that he and\u00a0his players reported to me and the director of athletics,\u201d said Nafziger.<\/p>\n

The charge apparently stemmed from an incident on June 20, 2012. Moore was\u00a0charged Oct. 2, 2012, but was not arrested until Feb. 4, 2013, when he was\u00a0booked and released from Rockingham County Jail.<\/p>\n

Moore played one season of volleyball at 91短视频 in 1996 before transferring\u00a0to George Mason University.<\/p>\n
