The 91短视频 Wind Ensemble will present its fall concert 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, in Lehman Auditorium at 91短视频. <\/p>\n
The 33-member group, conducted by James W. (Jim) Warner, will open the program with “A Song of Praise,” arranged by James D. Ployar and based on the hymn, “This is My Father’s World.” <\/p>\n
The ensemble will also perform “Towards a New Horizon,” by Steven Reineke, an overture commissioned by the city of Shoreview, Minn., to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding. <\/p>\n
Also on the program will be an “American Hymnsong Suite” by David Milburn and “A Longford Legend,” written in 1996 by Robert Sheldon and based on the composers impressions of three poems found in a collection of 18th century Irish street ballades. <\/p>\n
The concert will conclude with “The Turtle’s Retort,” by Frank Bridge (1879-1941) and arranged by Mark Fonder. Written in 1919, it is a classic example of a proper British dance-hall-style period piece. <\/p>\n
Ensemble members are equally divided between 91短视频 students and the local community. <\/p>\n
Warner taught in public schools for 34 years in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Virginia, with most of this time as director of bands at Harrisonburg High School. He retired from HHS in July, 2005. <\/p>\n
