Pathania, professor of sociology and peacebuilding at 91短视频, has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2023\/02\/17\/opinion\/caste-should-not-be-part-american-dream\/\">published in The Boston Globe<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/nation\/why-seattle-banned-caste-discrimination\">interviewed by PBS NewsHour<\/a> for his activism and expertise regarding caste systems and discrimination.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both his article and interview speak to the&nbsp;February milestone of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2023\/02\/21\/seattle-caste-discrimination-ban\/\">Seattle becoming the first US city to ban caste discrimination<\/a>, with the ordinance passing by large majority in the City Council. More recently, the Toronto District School Board became <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/americas\/toronto-school-board-becomes-first-canada-recognize-caste-discrimination-2023-03-09\/\">the first in Canada to recognize caste-based discrimination<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe caste system, with its origins in India and other South Asian nations, is a complex, rigid, and hierarchical structure of privilege based on birth,\u201d writes Pathania in his article. \u201cCaste should not be part of the \u2018American Dream.\u2019\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2023\/02\/17\/opinion\/caste-should-not-be-part-american-dream\/\">Read the full article to learn more about caste systems<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pathania also writes, \u201cThe caste system is a disease, it&#8217;s an evil, it&#8217;s anti-civil.
