Visiting Pastor, Melissa Florer-Bixler, encourages us to “rethink power” in the ways of Jesus. She draws from experience with community organizing and inspiration for how Jesus tells us to think differently about power rather than simply embracing “powerlessness” as a Christian commitment.

Melissa Florer-Bixler was on campus for 91¶ĚĘÓƵ’s visiting pastor program. Melissa is a member of Chapel Hill Mennonite Fellowship (NC) and is on the pastoral staff of Duke Memorial United Methodist Church in Durham, NC.

Roth speaks on the theme of “Who is Jesus?: Christian Convictions, Religious Toleration, and the Future of the Christian Faith.”

John D. Roth is professor of history at Goshen (Ind.) College, where he also serves as the editor of The Mennonite Quarterly Review, and the director of the Mennonite Historical Library. He is the founding director of the Institute for the Study of Global Anabaptism at Goshen College, and is currently focusing on several projects related to the global Anabaptist fellowship. He and his wife, Ruth, are the parents of 4 adult children (including 2 granddaughters) and are active members at Berkey Avenue Mennonite Fellowship in Goshen, Indiana.

Lana Miller serves as Undergraduate Campus Pastor. She was raised Mennonite and continues to worship with a congregation that is part of Mennonite Church USA. She began her career in the field of education as a high school biology and chemistry teacher and since then has been a youth pastor, curriculum writer, teacher in spiritual formation and youth ministry, convention planner for Mennonite Church USA, and regional representative for Mennonite Central Committee in Southeast Asia. Her journey has led her to encounter many experiences, people and places, but her heart remains in Christian spiritual formation, being a nurturing pastoral presence for those discerning how to embody their faith.

Several 91¶ĚĘÓƵ students have gotten involved with , a ministry of sharing God’s love in the neighborhood led by Seth & Theresa Crissman, currently through Virginia Mennonite Missions. Come find out what’s up in the neighborhood and consider joining the fun!

Sabrina hails from the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Her passion for fighting human trafficking quickly developed after volunteering with The Zion Project, and she made it her mission to learn about this issue on a local and global scale. In 2010, she and her husband, Steven had the vision of New Creation. Armed with the belief that prayer and education are the solution to the problem, she continues to develop concepts that will make an impact. When not working you will find her spending time with her husband & their children, thrifting with friends, or snuggling with one of her beloved cats…Nehemiah, Willow, and Oliver.

She explores the story of Lazarus and the implications for our lives today as we have the opportunity to rise to new life.
