Dr. Susan Schultz Huxman delivers the plenary address during the Fall Faculty Staff Conference in Lehman Auditorium. Dr. Huxman became the 9th president of 91Ƶ on January 1, 2017!  She comes to us with a stellar background in rhetoric, having directed the Elliot School of Communication at Wichita Sate University before becoming president of Conrad Grebel College at the University of Waterloo. Susan holds a PhD in communication studies. A graduate of Bethel College, Newton, Kansas, she is a firm believer in the value of Mennonite Higher Education. (www.emu.edu/president)

2016 Faculty Staff Conference – Purpose Statement:

The 2016 91Ƶ fall conference seeks to cultivate community among faculty and staff by welcoming new employees and providing space to reconnect with colleagues.We seek to energize ourselves for a new academic year through worship, storytelling, plenary and breakout sessions, conversation and fellowship. This year, the conference theme is informed by Goals 3 and 4 of the 2015-2020 91Ƶ Strategic Plan, which are to recruit, develop, and retain diverse, effective faculty and staff. Our hope is that all who attend will acquire a greater understanding of diversity and the importance of embracing diversity in our work. This conference will identify tools to help us support each other and our students in achieving success as we move toward being the distinctive Christian university we aspire to be.

The award honors the efforts of graduating students who have made outstanding contributions to the university, community or society.

The Blue cord represents strength of conviction that one person can help to create a better institution; also willingness and openness to share thoughts and ideas.

The Gold cord represents love of spirit and yearning towards creating a better university community in which all can take part; gold is also the color of achievement.

Dr. John Stahl-Wert (91Ƶ ’81)is an entrepreneur, CEO, and Leadership Mentor. John founded a number of initiatives in the Pittsburgh area, including  Serving Ventures and Pittsburgh Urban Leadership Service Experience (PLUS. He has authored a number of books including international best-sellers. A City Transformation Champion from 1994 to 2012, John served and led Pittsburgh Leadership Foundation, a 35-year-old city transformation agency dedicated to the renewal and flourishing of the culture of Pittsburgh. This work included founding the International Training Institute for Leadership Foundations, a 50-city Leadership Foundation organization working for city flourishment, business and civic excellence, and community development world-wide.

John is married to Milonica (91Ƶ ’81) and father to Emma (91Ƶ ’11) and Clara.
