“We are a group of biblical storytellers from varied Christian traditions who have banded together to use our gifts to share the Bible in a way that many have not heard before.  Begun in 2009, we have visited churches, retirement facilities, nursing homes, civic auditoriums and many other venues brnging back the original way the Gospel was shared–orally from memory.  In addition to various telling and presentations, we meet about ten times a year at Muhlenberg Lutheran Church, Harrisonburg.  If you would like more information, like to arrange for a ‘telling’, or would like to join our group, we can be reached at svbsguild@gmail.com.”

“The Revelation of John” – David Downey /now/podcast/2013/10/17/the-revelation-of-john-david-downey/ Thu, 17 Oct 2013 16:13:51 +0000 http://emu.edu/now/podcast/?p=2980 Your browser does not support the audio element.

Biblical Storyteller David Downey presents the entire Biblical book of Revelation from memory over the course of two Chapel Gatherings in the Seminary.

Tuesday, October 15, 2013 includes The Prologue, The Seven Churches, The Seven Seals, and The Seven Trumpets

Thursday, October 17, 2013 includes The Dragon and the Beasts, The Seven Bowls of God’s Wrath, The Fall of Babylon and The Judgement, and The New Heaven and the New Earth.

Because hearing the spoken Word is very different from reading it, Downey suggests two things as you listen to Revelation:

“First, do not try to follow along in your Bible.  It will only create a distraction and is probably a different translation anyway.”

“Secondly, as you listen, try not to interpret, or analyze, or try to understand what you hear.  Simply listen to the images and symbols and descriptions and let the creative power of God speak to you through the hearing of His Word.”

The entire campus community is invited to every chapel service on campus. Eastern Mennonite Seminary hosts chapel gatherings in Martin Chapel every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 11:00.
