If you are an 91¶ÌÊÓƵ student, our services are for you. Our tutors are like you. They are taking classes, taking exams, writing papers, and doing their homework. The difference is that they are also tutoring their peers in their area of expertise.

Our tutors provide tutoring in:

We have writing tutors for undergraduate writing. Sign up for a writing tutor the same way as for a subject (see ). 

We will:

• Work with you over a period of time to improve your writing skills.
• Provide you with materials to aid your work on a paper. (Topic selection, preparing an outline, researching, footnoting, etc.)
• Supply exercises on specific writing mechanics such as spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.
• Read rough draft of your paper for analysis of errors and constructive criticism. Be sure that your paper is typed or neatly written in ink on every other line.

We will not:

• Write any assignments for you.
• Edit any papers for you.
• Read papers the day that they are due. Allow at least three days from the time of your appointment until the day the paper is due. This will give you adequate time for corrections or revisions.

It is best if the medical documentation was done with adult norms and with considerations toward the needs of the individual as a college student. If your documentation is from many years ago, we will work with you to obtain an up-to-date evaluation that is based on adult standards. We consider the documentation on a case-by-case basis.

It is good to share this with the academic access coordinator and discuss how it might affect your campus and academic life.

 

This information is important as you plan for college success. You should speak with someone about what that means for you in a post-secondary school setting. However, current evaluation based on adult norms are needed for college accommodations. Make an appointment with the academic access coordinator to discuss your particular situation.

Only those persons who you feel should know. The academic access coordinator keeps a confidential file with limited access to your information. It would be shared only when there is a compelling reason to do so. In that case, you would be contacted prior to its being shared. Faculty and administration members generally only need to know what you are willing to tell them. In other cases, you sign a release of information giving your permission.

The academic access coordinator works with you and the documentation you provide to develop a Memo of Accommodations that verifies the appropriate accommodations you need based on your documentation. Share your Memo with every professor. Set up an appointment with each instructor at the beginning of each semester in each class for which you need accommodations. Both you and the professor e-sign the memo verifying that you hve discussed and agreed on how you will receive the accommodations for their class. If you don’t feel you need accommodations in a class, it is your right to choose not to use them. Accommodations are not granted retroactively.

All accommodations are based on the recommendations documented by the appropriate professional who evaluated the student. Some of the accommodations that students receive are a proctored test setting, extended time, alternative testing options, use of computers in testing, note-takers, preferential seating, use of recorded textbooks, use of adaptive technologies, study skills assistance, coaching, and single-room housing.

Receiving accommodations is based on when you present your documentation to the Office of Academic Access. It is only after meeting with the coordinator to develop your Memo of Accommodations and presenting it to your course instructor for signature that you are allowed to receive accommodations. There are no retroactive accommodations. A student is expected to advocate for themselves with their professors as soon as the semester begins.

 

The coordinator provides counsel, guidance, and support for students with disabilities. The coordinator serves as a liaison between the student and the faculty, administration, and student life in issues that arise from their disability needs.
