Meet the Tutors

Writing tutors take walk-ins during their appointment windows in the Academic Success Center on the third floor of 91短视频鈥檚 library. However, because tutors are scheduled only for a limited number of hours each week, it鈥檚 best to make an appointment ahead of time.

You may meet with a tutor at any stage of the writing (or speech-making) process, whether that be trying to understand the wording of an assignment, getting support with paraphrasing, or revising a paper or speech. Each appointment lasts for a half hour and takes place in the Academic Success Center in the library.

Be prepared to show the tutor the instructions for your assignment.

Writing tutors have taken a course to prepare to work with you to gain confidence in your writing and become a better writer. They may ask you some of the following questions from the sixth edition of the Bedford Guide for Writing Tutors (2016):

  • 鈥淲hat can I help you with?鈥
  • 鈥淲hat assignment are you working on?鈥
  • 鈥淲ho is your audience?鈥
  • 鈥淲hat are you writing about?鈥
  • 鈥淐an you tell me (briefly) how you set up your argument?鈥
  • 鈥淐an you tell me a little more about your writing process for this paper鈥揾ow you started, how much time you gave yourself for research, and so on?鈥

Writing tutors will not:

  • Complete assignments for you
  • Edit or proofread papers for you
  • Review papers outside of the half-hour appointment time
  • Guarantee extensive aid on the day assignments are due.
